The texture from the "carbon fiber" skin is nice. That said, this skin is essentially a large vinyl type sticker. That's not really a bad thing. The adhesive is strong and at the same time, doesn't leave residue. The material used for the carbon fiber texture feels strong enough and seems like it could take some scratches without damaging the Macbook underneath.

Installation wasn't too bad. It's a dry install (meaning water is not required to smooth out bubbles) and because the skin is an opaque skin you don't have to worry about getting tiny pieces of dust underneath (though you should still try to keep it at a minimum). I've performed my share of wet install skins, and this one was easier than most of the wet installs. The skin is also pretty thick compared to wet install 3M transparent skins, so getting it on and smoothing it out is, in my opinion, easier.

So from the above you might be wondering why I only gave it two stars? The fit is awful. This is a rigid skin not like the wet install transparent skins where you can stretch it a little.

The top skin isn't fitted well to the lid. Where there is nearly no room for error on the top or bottom of the lid skin, the sides have a little too much room.

Which is okay compared to the bottom skin. The bottom is so misaligned that several holes are covered half way which makes them un-serviceable.

After, I looked at some video reviews and notice others had the same problem. The skin is just cut poorly.

Before anyone asks, yes I have a 2012 Macbook Pro 15 with Retina display that this skin was made for.

To summarize, this is a nice quality skin, but the fit is poor.

I love this skin. It took me about 5 min to install and though I am a surgeon and perhaps this sort of thing comes easier to me I had none of the problems getting it aligned that some people mentioned above. If you hold it taut and "let it down evenly" onto your MBP while looking through the cut-outs at the 1) Apple (for Top), 2) Rubber Feet/Screws (for Bottom), and 3) Trackpad (for Wrist Rest) then you can get the alignment pretty quickly and cleanly w/out a lot of fuss. If the cut-out looks pretty good let a little bit more down to stick and then see how you're lined up along the upper edge. It THAT looks good then let the rest fly and smooth out the bubbles w/your fingers. The first couple attempts (try the Top first, it is easiest) I had trouble but the skin peels right off if you don't let the whole thing stick down immediately and I got the hang pretty easily after redoing it once or twice. No residue on Mac! Mine seemed cut nearly perfectly for the 15" MBP Retina.

It makes for a more secure grip while carting around and using the MBP and it doesn't slip out of my open bag anymore. It looks highly professional, not cheap and I'm very happy I got it (though I wish I had purchased on Amazon for the lower price).

I was very hesitant after reading some of the install reviews. But I ordered it anyway. That said, after receiving it, i waited until the next day when i was off, then i started in on the install. First i did the half thing, only peeling half back and trying to align it correctly, not the best way... I found the absolute easiest way is to cut or rip ( preferably cut for smooth edge ) about a inch and a half or so, squared on all four corners on the top sheet and set each of the four corners one at a time to where it lines up like it is suppose to on the top of your Mac , ( this is very very easy to do and is done rather quickly ) once you have it affixed on all four corners ( properly aligned ) then pull up on two of the corners on one side and pull back the paper below the product and cut the paper off about half way across . Once thats done, reapply the product carefully while making sure its aligned one corner at a time. You can pull on it to stretch it a little to make sure its the same distance. After this is done, pull up the other side and and repeat this process. Also do the same for the back side and wrist area. Only difference on the backside is you have the small strips that go on the sides of your Mac, pull one off at a time and apply them before you apply the back sheet.

Hope this helps everyone, it was really easy to get it aligned using this technique.

The product itself, is great, no issues with the size being correct, mine was perfect. The feel is nice and you can tell from the texture it will provide the coverage your looking for from scratches and scuffs. Actually just ordered the other two colors now.

It wasn't specified what size this cover was but I unfortunately assumed it was for the 13 inch model. With a nice exacto knife and time it worked out just fine

Skin was easy to apply. I suggest cutting the backing paper in the middle and work outwards. My husband and I worked on it together but I think one person could manage to apply himself if necessary. Skin has a great texture to it which will aid in the machine not slipping out of your hands while carrying it. Received many compliments on it already.
