Two notes for potential buyers. First, while the bookbook is made to look like a book, it is more like a big old encyclopedia than a conventionally sized book. I love the look of the thing, but it will take a tall shelf to store it like a book. It does have a "stealth" aspect to it because it looks like a book rather than a computer case, but it looks so good that book thieves might take it!
Second, some people might live to regret that it doesn't have a handle. That isn't an issue for me and it would defeat the whole idea of the bookbook, but if you walk long distances with your computer, be sure that you are up for carrying it like a book rather than in a conventional briefcase or backpack.
I bought the 15" model. While it is made specifically for the MacBook Pro, I have an older Powerbook G4. I wrote the company and asked if my computer would fit, and they replied (essentially) "kind of." But they added that because of their 30-day no questions asked guarantee, it wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't happy with the fit. So I took a small chance, and as it turns out it fits perfectly. No bulges or fit issues of any kind. It really is beautiful.
I like it so much that I am buying one for my ipad (although you also might want to consider a dodocase for your iPad).
UPDATE (8/11): I have had my bookbook for about a year now, and I still like it as much as the first week I bought it. No issues of any kind. I bought the iPad version for my iPad, and I think that I like it even more than the one I bought for my mac (I carry my iPad around a lot more than my powerbook).

The positives:1. I have never received so many compliments about a laptop case before.
2. Customer service from Twelve South is great.
The negatives:
1. The first case had a broken zipper (came apart after a day and could not realign). Amazon replaced it.
2. The second case had a broken zipper. Amazon replaced it.
3. The third case had a broken zipper. I contacted the manufacturer (Twelve South) and they sent out a replacement case.
4. The fourth case had misaligned straps that held the screen. Every time it was opened, the case would come off. It also was sewn together incorrectly and the screen would not open past 90 degrees due to the hinge area being stretched too tight. The manufacturer replaced it yet again.
5. The fifth case had a broken zipper again. I contacted Amazon and received a refund.

I was very picky when it came to cases for my MacBook Pro, and I searched for weeks before I even ordered the computer. Once I heard about this on a gadget site, I thought, "THIS is it!" I was initially reluctant because of the intimidating price and the fact that there weren't any reviews at the time, so I held off until I actually needed a case.Fast forward to today, and the case works like I need it to. I don't want a handle (it takes away from the aesthetic), and I need it to fit in my backpack. It adds very little bulk to the MBP; the zippers close just outside the edges of the MacBook, and the inside has a soft cushioning. I'm not sure how well it'll hold from heavy drops since the case is very form-fitting, but with actual leather (more "felt"-feeling leather than the kind you'd expect on a leather book, if that makes any sense) it should provide some decent protection (I dropped it from my hand onto my desk once, and the case was fine--not even a mark or dent on the corners of the BookBook).
There are even two little black flaps that wrap around the corners of the screen to keep the case from falling over when you're using the computer, but I've found that, since the spine is still very rigid, I didn't need to bother with them.
The only issue I had is the price. Sure, it's made of real leather and it's a one-of-a-kind case, but I still couldn't wash away some guilt for spending $80 on it.
Nevertheless, it's a fantastic item that I've gotten compliments on, and really adds personality since I'm a bookworm.
Just as a side note, I ordered this directly from Twelve South since the BookBook wasn't on Amazon.com at the time. Make sure to check the zippers. The first one I received had faulty zippers, but I was able to exchange it hassle-free. (And if you order from Twelve South, make sure they get the address right. Both times they had the wrong address, even though I corrected them both times, which led to some delay in delivery.)
Honest reviews on Twelve South BookBook for 17-Inch MacBook Pro - Vintage leather
I have been using this case for the last few months. The exterior design is spot on; whoever got the exterior together did a phenomenal job. I have really never seen such good craftsmanship for such a reasonable price. Beautiful work. However, my experience with this case convinced me to write my first ever online review because I think you should be warned if you are considering buying this item. So here are the big cons:
1. I saw the bright red interior online but it looked snazzy. But when it arrived, I raised my eyebrows because, my goodness, that color was mighty red and everyone knows red fabric is known to bleed. After a couple of months with my white Macbook in the case, I was completely shocked to see that the top and sides of my computer were now dyed pink!
Okay, well, damage done. I knew I was going to keep the case anyway, but any ideas of selling my computer were now thrown out the window.
2. Another point: being encased in basically two cushions does not allow for much air movement and the computer really heats upnot good.
3. Also along the couple of month mark, I noticed that the wonky elastic bands to keep the computer strapped in were starting to stretch out. This to me is a major design flaw. As good as it looks, you're telling met that an $80 laptop case just has two bands to fit over the top sides of the screen area to keep the whole thing in? Yes, that is correct. Two little bands and nothing else, nothing on the bottom to keep the computer attached to the case. So yes, there is a zipper that holds the computer in, and maybe I was being lazier than I should have to not zip it up every single time I moved the computer a foot left or right. I kinda thought that was overkill until-
I was lifting my computer in case from the floor where I was working to a desk 2' above, when all of a sudden my computer fell out of the case, landed on the floor and broke the plug-in jack! :(
This is now many hours later and the jack has been repaired, but I don't think it's right that I spent money on this case and now have a pink computer, that heats up all the time, and that I have to be extremely careful with when I move it. It is cute, but be warned.
