I had purchased this item a couple of months ago, for my new macbook (retina, 15"). The color is very nice and the case fits perfectly on and around the laptop. The problems are at the rear corners of the bottom portion. They are basically two tabs (not even 1/2" wide) that cover these corners. One fell off about a month ago, and the other followed suit yesterday. I have treated this thing with nothing but care and respect, no drops or impacts of any kind.
If I were to guess, these corner bits can not tolerate the heat generated (which can be substantial, especially during heavy downloading or streaming) and simply get weak. The rest of the case is fine, but now I have two exposed rear corners. Until Speck redesigns this case with more durable corners, I can't recommend it.
In their defense, this case was available shortly after the MBPr's release and may not have been thoroughly tested. Also, the macbook's design does not allow for substantial coverage in that area without interfering with the accessibility of the ports or the opening of the display.

A few weeks ago I purchased this Speck cover. It seems to be a durable material. It snaps securely into place (you do actually have to apply some pressure to key spots to get it completely snapped on. The pressure needed is not excessive.)
I have removed it once or twice (had a dust spot under the cover). It does require some effort to get it off, but nothing to the point of feeling like you are going to damage anything. You will probably end up rethinking your removal strategy when your first attempt does not work. I have had no problems with broken tabs, and have not really looked for scratched...but hey! the cover is supposed to protect my MAC from scratches so I am not quite so obsessive that I don't want the cover scratched.
All, in all I am very prleased with the product, and the pricing is very reasonable on Amazon. Go Speck!

Speck almost got it right for Macbook pro retina 15". Unfortunately, the bottom case piece has a sharp lip that your palms run over while using the keyboard. I decided to correct the manufacturing DEFECT myself by sanding off the front edge by a few thousands and now its fine. Had I not picked this up as a "open item" , I would not have fixed the problem but rather returned it. So, best results will be with a block sander using 150 grit paper and making sure to round out the outside edge of the lower case that your palms will run over.

This is a good cover. It is a little heavy so I normaly only use the top half, I don't really care if the bottom gets a scratch and it cuts down on the weight. Im not shure how much protection it gives if you drop your laptop so i might use the whole case if i was going on a long trip with it. I like the clear one, you hardly know its there visually but like I said it does add to the weight of the laptop.

I love putting these cases on my MacBook Pro computers because the aluminum scratches SO easily. These scratch, too, but it isn't as noticeable, and also it is protecting my investment. It also adds such a pretty, transparent color! It reminds me of watercolor paint, and I'm an artist. I'm not sure how to rate the protection. I dropped the computer from 4 feet up and I did dent my last MacBook Pro, but I honestly believe the damage would have been much worse without the case. Before I started using Speck Cases, my MacBook Pro used to get all sorts of dings and dents just from being transported. That's why I sought our the Speck case when I got my second one. I have tried knockoff cases because of Speck's high price on these cases, and they do not work as well. The cheaper plastic shows the scratches, and also doesn't fit my products well. I got MORE scratches on my IPad for example from using a knockoff case, and the cheap cases are even harder to remove than Speck. The speck case IS hard to remove, and if you struggle with it, I'd recommend using a spudger a plastic tool for working with computers3M SP3010 Nylon Spudger Tool. I saw an Apple Genius remove it using one and it is much faster. Otherwise, make sure you start at the clips you can see holding the case to your computer. Honestly, I'd love to see these case go for about half the price speck charges, but even the 30 35 dollar range would have earned them 5 stars. 50 is just too much for two pieces of albeit well engineered plastic! I find I still need to put the computer into a bag or sleeve as well, so it feels like a lot for an item that is not a full-on case.
